I applied for this internship through my college.

On the first day of my internship at DLSA, Prayagraj, the formalities were conducted in a professional yet welcoming manner. We were asked to submit our ID proofs and a letter from our institution.

An introductory session was held where we were briefed about the structure and functioning of the DLSA.

The infrastructure of the office was simple yet adequate for the purpose it serves. The staff was cooperative and the environment was conducive to learning. My first impression was quite positive — I could sense the seriousness of the work being done there in the field of legal aid and access to justice.

The officers were approachable and ready to guide us, which made me feel motivated and excited to begin my internship.

During my internship at DLSA, Prayagraj, I was involved in a wide range of tasks aimed at understanding the functioning of the legal aid system. One of the primary tasks was attending court proceedings, especially in legal aid cases, and observing how the system ensures access to justice for the underprivileged.

I also assisted in drafting legal aid applications and learned how they are processed.

Another important task was participating in awareness programs and legal literacy camps organized in rural and urban areas. We helped in preparing pamphlets, coordinating with local authorities, and spreading awareness about fundamental rights, free legal aid, and the role of DLSA.

Additionally, we were given opportunities to interact with panel lawyers, para-legal volunteers, and the secretarial staff to understand their roles. We also contributed to documentation work and maintained daily reports of our activities. These tasks enhanced both my theoretical understanding and practical exposure to legal aid services.

The work environment at DLSA, Prayagraj was professional, disciplined, yet supportive. The staff members, including the Secretary of the DLSA, panel advocates, and para-legal volunteers, were approachable and eager to help us understand the functioning of the institution.

Interns were treated with respect, and our queries were welcomed and answered patiently. There was a clear structure in place for daily tasks, and punctuality was emphasized. Despite the seriousness of the work, the overall atmosphere was encouraging and conducive to learning.

We were allowed to observe real legal aid cases, participate in outreach programs, and engage in meaningful discussions on legal rights and public awareness.

This positive environment helped me gain confidence, improve my communication skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the importance of legal aid in promoting social justice.

One of the best aspects of my internship at DLSA, Prayagraj was the exposure to ground-level implementation of legal aid services. It allowed me to bridge the gap between theoretical legal education and its practical application. I appreciated the opportunity to attend real court proceedings, especially in matters involving marginalized and underprivileged communities.

Another good thing was the chance to participate in legal awareness drives and literacy camps, where we interacted directly with people from rural and backward areas. It made me realize the importance of spreading legal knowledge at the grassroots level.

The mentors and staff were supportive and treated interns with respect. They were always willing to share their experiences and explain procedures. The structured schedule, interactive sessions, and real-time work made the internship both educational and impactful.

Overall, it gave me a sense of social responsibility as a future legal professional.

While the overall experience at DLSA, Prayagraj was enriching, there were a few areas where improvement could be made. At times, the lack of a structured orientation or daily schedule led to confusion among interns regarding their specific duties for the day. More systematic delegation of tasks would have enhanced learning outcomes.

Additionally, limited access to legal databases or reading material on-site made it difficult to research certain topics in depth. A brief training session or workshop on legal aid laws and procedures at the beginning would have been helpful.

That said, these were minor issues, and they did not significantly affect the value of the internship as a whole.

It was an unpaid internship.

As I am a resident of Prayagraj, I did not require any separate accommodation during the internship. I used my personal bike to commute daily to the DLSA office, which is situated within the District Court premises.

Travelling by bike was convenient and time-saving, especially during court hours when public transport tends to be crowded. The location of the DLSA office is central and easily reachable, and parking space for two-wheelers was available nearby, which made daily commuting smooth and hassle-free.

For interns coming from outside Prayagraj, there are several affordable accommodation options near Civil Lines or High Court Road. However, for local interns like me, commuting was quite convenient and did not pose any issues.

Apart from the legal exposure, the internship also gave me a chance to interact with fellow interns from different colleges, which made the experience more enjoyable and enriching. During breaks, we would often sit in the court canteen, discuss interesting cases, or share our career plans and law school experiences — a great way to chill out and connect.

One of the most important lessons I learned was the value of empathy and patience in the legal profession. Seeing how DLSA works tirelessly to provide access to justice to the underprivileged made me realise the true essence of being a lawyer — not just fighting cases, but ensuring that justice reaches even the most vulnerable.

This internship strengthened my commitment to public service and legal awareness. It was not just about learning law, but understanding how law functions as a tool for social change.
